Heather B, The Story So Far…

I have been in business for well over 20 years and I served my apprenticeship with someone, who back then, was one of the most well known and respected photographers in the area and who is still going strong today.

Through his patience and wisdom and my own determination I became a wedding photographer.

Heather B Studios began life at Great Moor Street in Bolton town centre and during the first 12 years it had lots of ups and downs. It survived 2 recessions, 10 burgalries and had to fight off strong competition from the likes of Olan Mills and Venture Portraits.

You can’t beat progress!

The council had plans to re-develop Great Moor Street and the studio was left without a home for 9 months. The council tried to find other premises for me without success until a call came out of the blue that changed everything.

It was a offer to move into Smithills Hall and without hesitation I agreed.

This wonderful hall is very special to me for many personal reasons and has always been a part of my life. It is one of Bolton’s finest remaining buildings and I wanted to make sure that I would become an asset to the hall and always try my best to help care for it in any way possible.

The staff and friends of Smithills Hall took a chance on me and I would like to thank them for their support.

June 2023 - The end of a era and the start of a new chapter.

I have been so happy at Smithills Hall for the last 11 years, I have faced many challenges, mainly being in a stunning place but having no passing trade and being invisible from the main road, especially in the winter months. Also the terrible times we all had in covid. But through all of it my customers have stayed loyal and I have photographed thousands of people on the gorgeous grounds of Smithills Hall and in the forest areas. I feel I know the grounds so well it’s like home.

I will miss the people who work at the hall and the lovely dog walkers and of course the amazing volunteer gardeners. But good news, I won’t miss them too much as I am still going to shoot my outdoor sessions every week at the hall.

I did not plan to leave the hall, Bolton Council have employed a company called ‘Robertsons’ who now manage the hall and the tenants. The increase in rent was to much for me to manage and will increase again next year. So I had no choice but to move on.

I have always used the balloon shop in Horwich for my ‘cake smash’ balloons, it was previously called (Celebrations), as the previous owner was giving her notice and the lovely lady who worked for her wanted to carry on, I decided to take the leap and I am so glad I did.

We are now settled after a very hectic few weeks. We are already seeing a big change and lots of orders coming in. Horwich is packed with lovely independent shops and lovely cafes and bars along with free parking and 2 mins from the amazing Rivington.

I am now completely at home at the new Heather B Studios & Balloon Emporium. Please continue to support us now we have moved.

Looking forward to meeting you all at the new home of Heather B’s.
